Adding a little spice! : Monsoon Wedding Movie

November 12th, 2010

Monsoon Wedding is a great cultural blend of old and new cultural traditions. It features all the drama of an Indian wedding complete with a mix of music from all times. This movie really demonstrates the perfect Panjabi/Indian wedding and really gives us the opportunity to bring some awareness to the unique experiences couples are looking for today. Most couples in Ontario are looking for distinctive ways to mix their heritage and cultural backgrounds with the new cultures that they have embraced in Canada. Cultural weddings connect guests, allow them to share in new experiences and honours the elder generations of each family.

Bringing a touch of culture into your decorations is a great place to start. Aditi’s wedding (Monsoon bride) features the marigold flower which is actually an Indian tradition. This is the perfect way to bring in a little old to a modern wedding. Many cultures also have a few practices that are easy to add into any celebration. To name a few, African American weddings have couples jump over a broom to signify their freedom, many cultures have the families of the couple exchange gifts the evening before the ceremony while in Czech weddings bridesmaids make a wreath of rosemary for the bride this wreath symbolizes a hope  for wisdom, love and loyalty in the marriage.

Respecting old traditions while making room for new ones can be a tricky tight rope to walk but the spice that it adds to a wedding is certainly worth it! Once you have an idea of the combination of cultures you would like for your wedding, it’s a good idea to have a consultation with a professional. You want all the traditions to flow smoothly and blend without taking away from the authenticity of the cultures and traditions. Events… i do! has a wide range of knowledge with cultural and destination weddings. We understand that this special day should always feel comfortable and represent your past, present and future to come.

Make an appointment with an experienced planner to brainstorm and work out all the little spices that you can incorporate into your day.
